The Festival

The Prayatna Film & Dance Festival is organized by the Hrishikesh's Centre of Contemporary Dance, Pune, India. This multifaceted festival celebrates the International Dance Day which is held on 29th April each year. The festival is supported by Max Mueller Bhavan, Pune, and has seen participation from legends such as Padma Shri Astad Deboo, Padma Shri Rita Ganguly, Kathak legend Uma Dogra, Smt. Shama Bhate, Smt Yogini Gandhi and other international artists.

The festival began in 2009 with the sole purpose to celebrate the movement of dance.

The 7th Prayatna Film and Dance Festival 2015 is scheduled to be held in Pune from the 24th to 28th April 2015,Pune. Organized by the acclaimed ‘Hrishikesh’s Centre of Contemporary Dance’ in collaboration with Max MuellerBhavan, Pune, this year it opens a dialogue between literature and dance, offering a platform to look at the ongoing practice of Contemporary Dance in India.

Prayatna 2015 will be graced by accomplished performers from all over India, namely Natya STEM Dance Kampni (Bangalore), Adishakti (Puducherry), Vaibhav Arekar (Mumbai), Rujuta Soman ( Pune), Nrityagram (Bangalore), and will be accompanied by seminars which include deconstruction of our present art practice by Sadanand Menon.

Our aim this year is bring together acclaimed artists from various corners of India and bridge the gap between arts and literature. The festival, like every year is an ardent attempt to look at dying dance forms with fresh perspectives. The festival includes a selection of interestingly constructive workshops, exhibition spaces and engaging performances to keep its audience gripped.

With the help of all our generous supporters and the encouraging audience, the festival has grown phenomenally over the past 6 years. In 2015, the Prayatna Film and Dance Festival is coming back as biggest so far. The 5 days will witness live performances by local, national and international artists, all performing at various locations in the city.

The festival is supported by Max Mueller Bhavan, Pune, National Film Archives of India (NFAI) and Alliance Francaise, Pune and has seen participation from legends such as Padma Shri Astad Deboo, Padma Shri Rita Ganguly, Kathak legend Uma Dogra, Smt. Shama Bhate, Smt Yogini Gandhi and other international artists. This multifaceted festival celebrates the International Dance Day with a grand finale on 29th April each year.

The festival allows avenues of expression through film screenings, open discussions, expert seminars, interactive workshops and performances.
